100 Days to a Brand New You: How to deal with the voices of doubt! (99/100)
“Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising which tempt you to believe that your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end, requires some of the same courage which a soldier needs. Peace has its victories, but it takes brave men to win them.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson
A reality you will encounter on the path to self improvement whether your goal is weight loss, career goals, finding new love or just changing something in our lives are the voices of doubt.
Sadly, these voices usually come from ourselves, from the people we love or those who are invested in our failure. Please understand that their “you can’ts” are not just from a place of hate. More than likely it comes from a place of fear. It is the fear of you leaving them behind. When people tell you, you can’t it because they can’t and they won’t. The “you can’ts” are a way to keep you where they are most comfortable and that is trapped in a situation where you do not want to be. So how do we counter those voices?
1. We must create a vision for ourselves. If you want to lose weight envision yourself at optimal health and act like it. If you want to live in another country see yourself there and prepare for it. The point is if you want something see yourself doing it and live like it is happening at this very moment.
2. Next create goals. Include a step by step action plan and be specific. If you need to set timelines do it. Just be realistic or else you will set yourself up for disappointment and eventually failure .
3. Separate yourself from your doubters. Cut them off. Spend less time around them. Do what you can. However, if you cannot separate yourself from the doubters sometimes we have to learn to keep those goals to ourselves. The reality is that if you disclose your goals to others people may sabotage you. Remember, the reason why the doubters tell you, you can’t is because they fear a new you. Sabotage is a tool of control. If you need to talk to someone join a support group or surround yourself with like-minded people.
4. Finally the most important thing you must do above all else is to believe in yourself especially when others won’t. Not believing in yourself is a certified dream killer. That is what the doubters want. Don’t let others have that power over you. I want you to know that you have a purpose. If you did not you would not be here. Even on your worst days always trust in your purpose and trust yourself.
If you believe in your vision and stick to your goals you can achieve anything.
