pray

This weekend was something else. As you know people were slaughtered all across the Middle East and in Paris in terroristic acts. It was downright horrific. Well social media entered a whole level of madness. I should say hotepery because of what happened.

On Facebook people were changing their profile to the French flag in solidarity with the victims of the tragedy while others were saying they were going to pray for them. Check out my gallery of Hotep f**kery below. I just sat my pretty self-back, enjoyed my green decaf tea and observed it all. Well I have come to the conclusion that if you’re Black and done this, according the dark corners of Hotepstan  you were breaking the law.

I’ve seen Black folk call each other c**ns, sell outs, sheep and other derogatory words. Oh let’s not forget “if you support this flag (the French one) and not this flag (the Pan-African flag) you’re a negropean. What the blood clot? I am trying to figure out when did we humans become so basic? People can focus on and pray for multiple things at a time. It’s called being human. I don’t want to dip into the pool of foolishness but the name callers are dead wrong. Let’s do something folks rarely do on the net. Let’s delve in to the facts shall we.

It’s ironic this person used an image of a White baby.

  • There are Black French citizens. So when you’re praying for France you are praying for them too. It’s sad that I even have to say this.
  • Next, the United States media is going to focus on France because they are our allies and the media identifies with them. Guess who runs the United States media? White people! Why act surprised when people only see humanity in people who look like themselves.
  • One more thing,  people didn’t know about the attacks in January in Nigeria and April in Kenya because many in the U.S. media, including the Black American media didn’t focus on it. The Black American media was too busy in April focusing in on Freddie Grey while the White media was obsessing over a Rolling Stone story and along with Aaron Hernandez.
  • Finally, people don’t know about France’s horrific history of African colonization. They also had no clue that with the aid of the United States, Haiti (because the slaves freed themselves) continues to be unjustly indebted to France. Yes, the Haitians are still paying for their freedom. They won’t teach this in U.S. public schools because it goes against the freedom and liberty ideal pumped into our psyche. Most only find this out if they are lucky to attend an African Studies class in college.

So leave these people alone. You are not the grand arbiter of Blackness. You can’t tell people what to do. If they want to pray for one and not the other, that’s fine. I say if you are going to pray, why not pray for all of humanity. But that’s just me and you don’t have to listen to me. If they want to be educated, fine. If they don’t, well the choice is up to them. Stop trying to force your opinions on someone else, get off your ass, get off the net and go do something.

And when all else fails who do we blame. Black women of course.
