Why Buy Black?
There was a tremendous response to the “Abercrombie and Fitch model talks racism she witnessed“, article I posted on the Bougie Black Girl Facebook page. As I said on the BBG page, “Don’t protest. Don’t beg to be included. Hit them where it hurts the most, in their pockets. African-Americans must take our $1.1 trillion in spending power and shop somewhere else. Go where you are wanted. Buy Black owned.” As an alternative, many asked for a list of Black owned clothing stores, fashion designers and other businesses. Take a look at the wonderful Black-owned businesses below.
Why did we compile this list?
First of all I am tired of Black people giving our money to businesses who won’t hire us, who humiliate us and disrespect us, but will gladly take our money. We need to go where we are wanted. Next, the U.S. Black dollar only circulates at most, one time in the Black community. The Asian, White and Jewish dollar circulates at least 17 times in their community. Finally, Black independence and power starts with wealth. Black businesses hire Black workers! High Black employment generates wealth and these factors create thriving and healthy Black communities.
If a company can’t treat us with respect and dignity, they do not deserve our money. Black consumers deserve more than distrust, disrespect, and racism.
