Kasandra Michelle Perkins: We Must Say Her Name - The Feminist Wire http://thefeministwire.com/2012/12/kasandra-michelle-perkins/
This is beyond heartbreaking. What kind if man would shoot his wife then himself?? I have to be honest,I don’t see black folks doing this very often. I was very surprised. This is usually done by those other folks. I also think he took a coward’s way out. No REAL man would do something so sick and twisted! My heart goes out to that baby. To become an orphan so young. It’s a crying shame.
Amen
We also have to remember that young boys who are victimized, can turn into victimizers. We have to be real careful not to make this an “us against them.” I had a parents say to me that she was so concerned about her daughter being sexually abused (as the Mother was when she was a child) she completely took her eye off of her son; who was sexually abused by a family friend.
There’s acceptions to the rule, but that’s not common. Some black boys grow up around men or male figures who show lack of respect for women. It’s clear the part of our culture glorifys disrespect to women. I even read how it’s apart of sports culture as well. I have a father who abused my mother for years, still do and they’re seniors now. My dad had no indication of abuse actually he was a wild child, a rebel his mother let him do what the hell he wanted as a kid, he even said it himself he used hot wire cars and steal them. He’s no exception to the rule, I have male cousins the same way, pampered so much they treat women any kind of way, because it’s what they were taught, and they feel the only woman they should see about and treat right with respect is momma. So at some point we have to stop victim shifting, abused and battered black women rarely make the news, read the statistics. Black women/girls aren’t as protected when a black woman is abused she’s victim shamed as well as black girls. There’s no part in the story that mentions Belcher being a victim of abuse. Anyone who shoots a specific target 9 times has some serious hatred for that person within them.
I mean exceptions to the rule, excuse me.
