Today’s Challenge: Black women focus on your possibilities

When people ask me what do I believe in I tell them I believe in the beauty and humanity of life. You can, regardless if you are of faith or lack one, do it too. Every single day we are flooded with horror stories that are in all actuality are quite rare. I believe the constant bombardment of death and destruction by today’s media sources is done on purpose. It makes us forget the millions of large and small individual acts of kindness and beauty that appears in front of us every single day. Instead of focusing on our dreams and goals Black women are dragged and bogged down into internet fights for others, manufactured gossip and issues that are simply beyond our control. I find myself caught up in those things too. As a result of those distractions, we become distracted from what we really want. This lack of focus causes depression, which then leads to poor health and a low quality of life. In the end, we will live a life full of regret and untapped and trapped potential. You deserve better so let’s focus on you.

The challenge I am asking you to do is to take a look at the beauty and kindness all around you and inside of you. Sisters take joy and wonder in the possibilities. Do not focus on false limitations. Enjoy life’s acts of kindness instead of the rare acts of human destruction. Focus on your dreams and let go of the nightmares. Focus on your strengths and forgive your mistakes and weaknesses. Embrace life! It is time to let go of imagined debilitating fears and reject man-made manufactured socially engineered totem poles.

Take 15 minutes today and write down what you want to do with your life. Don’t limit yourself. Like I said, let go of what others think of you and the self limiting lies you’ve told yourself. Black women, do you want to climb mountains? Canoe down raging white waters? Dip your feet in the sand of a place where your language is foreign? Travel to places you can’t spell? Finish that novel you’ve never given yourself a chance to write? Imagine yourself doing those things.  I don’t want to hear, “I can’t do this because…” When you say that, deep down it is because you don’t want to, are afraid to or for some reason you were told you can’t do something. Sis, you been lying to yourself or someone lied to you. You can do it. It starts with a simple idea that I am asking you to commit to paper. Unlike other animals, we have the unique gift of changing our lives can change by simply changing the way we think and see the world. It is time to use those gifts and change yours. Let’s get started.

The only limit you have is the one you have placed on yourself. Think and be limitless because you are. Enjoy your day.

Wonderful post; I’ve been sharing the same message on my women’s empowerment page on facebook. I think that some black women have gotten used to making excuses for NOT having the lives that they’ve always desired and it’s mostly out of fear. If these particular women can get over this fear; they may have the lives, relationships and experiences that they’ve always deemed to be “impossible.” I love your work and you are certainly an inspiration for me. My page is geared toward all black women; but especially the “Gen. Y” ladies; which is my age group. BWE continues to enlighten so many black women and girls and I love it!
