“But what of black women?… I most sincerely doubt if any other race of women could have brought its fineness up through so devilish a fire.”  ~ W. E. B. Du Bois

In this post I do not speak for all Black women. There are millions of us with just as many differing perspectives and some may disagree. My point is to let others know that I and others will not play second to another human being because of their prejudices, traditions, and cultures.

I will not accept any racial totem poles, myths of Black inferiority or social media memes. You can have them for yourself. You see, what you think of me is none of my concern.  I am my own person and my own woman. And after all the burdens history has laid upon me, I, the daughters of the enslaved, ostracized, brutalized and colonized, still stand here determined, undefeated, undaunted and proud. So here is my declaration of self  liberation.

  1. I declare I will not be a mammy. I am the master of my destiny.
  2. I will not be your mule. I am focused on myself.
  3. I will not be invisible. I will be heard.
  4. I will not coddle those who benefit from my or others oppression.
  5. When I defend myself I am standing up for myself and the blood of the ancient mothers who came.
  6. I am a proud Black woman.
  7. I am the original woman.
  8. I am a true reflection of god’s/the creators/ or the first people’s image.
  9. My womb birthed many nations.
  10. I define myself.
  11. Every inch of me is beautiful.
  12. I am intelligent.
  13. I am limitless.
  14. I am fearless.
  15. I am unique.
  16. I am graceful.
  17. I am a creator.
  18. I am an innovator.
  19. I will stand up for myself.
  20. I am amazing.
  21. I will ignore those who challenge these declarations because I know and I see my truth.

Sisters I urge you. No I beg of you, do not allow someone else’s idea of you become your own. Stand up and declare your freedom. Own and embrace your womanhood. Reclaim your life.

The only limits you have are the ones you have placed on yourself. Think and be limitless.
