Businesswoman.

The biggest mistake we make is undervaluing our work. Why do we undervalue our work? Who knows? Maybe we don’t think we are worth it or we feel like we have to prove ourselves.

Look, the utility companies charge what they want and we know their services suck, but we pay anyway to keep the lights on. I want you to think of yourself and your business the same way. YOU are worth it and having your own business or career is proof enough. Again, stop undervaluing your work. If you own a business, stop charging low prices. You better stop feeling bad about charging too. Undervaluing what you bring to the table is why many businesses fail and why other individuals and businesses who charge what they are worth succeed. You’re a business and not a community service. You have to charge to reinvest in your business to keep your business going.  Most importantly, you have to charge what you are worth to live.

If that doesn’t convince you, here is a story. Well long time ago. In a land far, far away, when I was about 10 pounds lighter and student loanless (yes, I made up that word), I used to work for a jean company. When the jeans first dropped they charged about $30 a pair. The jeans sold OK. When the company changed their marketing strategy towards a high-end clientele and sold the jeans for $125 a pair, EVERYONE wanted them.

The lesson is when you undervalue your work and/or charge too little, people don’t value your work. When you think you’re average and charge the average, people think you’re average. When you think you’re more than average and charge a little more, people think you’re better than everyone else. Think about it like that. If I were, for example a makeup artist, I would market myself as a high-end business so you can in your mind justify charging high-end prices. The thing is not every customer will use your services, but the right customer will and that’s what you want. By the way, it doesn’t mean you have to sell or use high-end products. It just means you, your business and the experience of dealing with your business is high-end.

Remember Ali called himself the greatest before he actually became the greatest. The kicker is, people believed it. Call yourself high-end and people will pay you high-end prices. Good luck sis and make that money. You deserve it.

What do you think? Do you know someone who undervalues their work or worth? How can we change that bad habit? Remember the only limit you have is the one you have, is the one you placed on yourself. Think and be limitless.
