I know this is different from my posts, but I felt like I needed to write and this is what came out. Thanks for being patient. ~ BBG

A few days ago my house was robbed. We went out-of-town and someone came in and stole my babies video game consoles, video games, basically their Christmas gifts, my wedding ring, etc. They also broke furniture, electronics and other items. For me that’s just stuff. You see I have been hurt before. I’ve had my wallet ripped out of my hands, many items stolen and had a gun stuck in my face. But when you steal from children; that’s when it hurts.

The hardest thing for me has been my sons’ reactions. They couldn’t understand why. Why people would come into someone else’s home without their permission? Why would people break stuff and why people would and steal? We explained the best way we could without them knowing we were hurting too. At about 2:00 am I woke up to my oldest son patrolling the house. He wanted make sure no one broke into it while we were sleeping. He told us he wanted to keep us safe. I fought to hold back my tears so I gave him a hug, told him thank you and to go to bed.

You see these people took more than stuff. These people stolen and shattered my kids view of the world. A world that we created that was peaceful and loving. A world that told them people were kind, honest and friendly. A world they thought was safe. That’s what they stole. We are working on getting that back.

I believe somethings happen for a reason. It has taught us to be a better parents and to let our sons express themselves. It has also made our family stronger and much more focused on our goals. You see as parents, our job is our job is to protect our children. Our job is to reassure our children that those things were just stuff and to remind them that we have something that is much more valuable. We have each other. I’m grateful we’re alive and healthy and I’m so glad you are here too. Thank you for continued support. I am grateful!

Have you experienced this? How did you handle it? How about with children?

The only limit you have is the one you have placed on your self. Think and be limitless.
