Ha! I bet the title had you fooled. I believe in Black love but not the one that requires bumping love machines with another Black person because we are Black. I am talking about real Black love.

Real Black love is loving everything about you. Loving the entire organism that consists of you. It means loving not only the way you look and all things superficial but your spirit, your essence, your soul and how you feel about yourself. So lets focus on this kind of Black love.

Sis, we are constantly bombarded with images, beliefs and all things humanly possible to make us hate ourselves. Advertisers in the beauty industry get paid to do it. This leads to bad and very unhealthy choices, a sense of unfulfillment, wasted energy and time, a lack of self-confidence, low self-esteem and other negative emotions so it is important that you look in the mirror and love what you see. Lets get something straight. No man or woman can make you love you. No thing can do it. I don’t care what name brand it is or which celebrity sells it the truth is that those people and things cannot make you love you but you. If you are looking for self-love in things or other people you will be lost and always looking. By the way, how can you expect anyone to love you if you can’t love yourself? So I bet you are wondering how would I know. I lived it. I had a PhD in self hating. I made bad choices in men, finances, etc. but the moment I looked in the mirror and fell in love with me my eyes opened and my world changed. I found my swagger as the kiddies would say.

So if you don’t love yourself or lack confidence about yourself here is what I want you to do (this was what I did):

1. I want you to look in the mirror every single day for the next 30 days. Do it right after getting out of bed. I know you will look like a hot mess but so what? Let me let you in on a secret. We all look like a celebrity on the front page of TMZ after a wild night of clubbing and ingesting illegal unmentionables in the morning. See this as your time and do it.

2. While you are standing in the mirror tell yourself “I love you.” Say it out loud. Look at every inch of yourself and appreciate god’s/nature’s creation. Look at the perfect you. I know it may seem weird at first but trust yourself you will be glad to hear it.

3. At night during that 30 day period I want you to write down something you like/love about yourself.

I bet within a matter of days you will see that you are worthy of love and capable of loving yourself. And by the end of the month you will know it because you can see what you wrote about yourself.
