conversation

Today’s post is a bit unusual. It is a conversation between the lies we tell ourselves and the reality we need to hear. It is the constant warring conversation that takes place in our minds. Which one will win? Enjoy!!

Reality: Today I am going to tell you what you mama, your daddy, you best friend, your boo and cute little fur baby won’t. Your life is messed up because of you.

You: But how? There’s racism, sexism, classism, other -isms and all kinds of bigotry in the world. The world is against me. I can’t do this because I am…

Reality: ENOUGH! Yes, those things exist. Yes, it’s going to be hard to overcome them, but you can. What other people think or say about you doesn’t have to be who you are. Someone else’s low expectations or limitations doesn’t have to be your own.

You: (Rolls eyes) Please tell me how I messed my life up?

Reality: Where you are today is the total sum of your choices. Your life is messed up you made it that way.

You: So I decided I didn’t deserve happiness?

Reality: You decided you were unworthy of happiness. You listened to what the world said instead of the hopes and dreams inside of you.

You: I never thought about it that way.

Reality: Good! I am glad you’re thinking and people never think about it that way. We are trained to feel powerless and unworthy. We are told we need the permission of others when we only need permission from ourselves.

You:  (Skeptically) OK, but how can I give myself permission?

Reality: If you believe in God/nature/the spirits, those entities gave you permission. That permission is your existence.

You: So my permission is my existence?

Reality: If you believe in God/nature/the spirits/yourself or whoever they want you to succeed. If they didn’t, you wouldn’t be here today. You wouldn’t have your hopes and dreams. If God/nature/the spirits/yourself wants you to succeed why not want the same for yourself?

You: Fine. Being alive is my permission. I’ll give you that; but with all the odds against me can I change my life?

Reality: You weren’t listening. Since we’re the total sum of our choices guess what? It means we have the choice to change it. If you hate your job, change it. If you don’t like the way you look, change it. If you are around negative and unmotivated people, change it. If you hate where you are today, change it. The point is as easy as it was to mess up your life with bad choices you can live the life you want with good choices. The hardest part is realizing it is all up to you.

You: It is up to me and it is up to you!

Reality: I’m glad you’re finally listening.

I told you it was bit unconventional, but it is the conversation we’ve all had about ourselves. So will you stop listening to the lies we tell ourselves or will you accept reality? What do you think? I want to thank you for reading. Remember the only limit you have is the one you have placed on yourself. Think and be limitless.
